Poles and Posts

/edit/General/IMG_2625T_TN.JPG

Cypress is an in-ground durability class 2 timber with high termite resistance and low shrinkage, making it most suited to in-ground applications.
As a durability class 2 timber, cypress (heartwood) has an anticipated in-ground life of 15 to 25 years as per Australian standard - AS 5604.

Poles are available as

  • Natural Round with bark on (Tip Diameter: 150 to 200 mm, Lengths: to 6.0 meters)
  • Peeled Poles (Tip Diameter: 100 to 125 mm, Lengths: 1.8, 2.4, 3.0 meters)

Posts are available in the following sawn sizes:

  • 100 mm x 100 mm
  • 125 mm x 125 mm
  • 150 mm x 150 mm
  • 175 mm x 175 mm  (lead times apply)
  • 200 mm x 200 mm  (lead times apply)
Note: - Most sizes are available up to 5.4 m. For rectangular post sections, refer to Structural page.

Being unseasoned, it is recommended that cypress be end sealed immediately after docking, to reduce end splitting, with "Mobilcer 'M' Wax Emulsion" by Mobil Oil Australia or similar. If material is to be coated (eg. oil, paint etc) then this coating can be used as an end sealer. This can be applied liberally and may require several coates. For in-ground applications it is recommended that all sapwood be removed below ground level, and that the docked ends be coated with Bituminous paint or a preservative treatment. Cypress used for posts may be dressed, however in external applications, experience has shown that sawn cypress provides a greater long term weathering ability, a better surface 'key' for coatings, and is less prone to surface checking than dressed cypress.
