Marnie Lewis looked to the northern hemisphere to create her first entry for the Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show. The result is Nord – a show garden Lewis describes as a “typical Norwegian retreat”.

“As this is the first time I’ve entered the show I wanted to do something different. I want people to walk away and say, ‘I want to create that in my garden’. We’ve seen contemporary Australian gardens and we’ve seen Asian gardens. I personally love the clean simplicity of Scandinavian design,” she says.

Lewis’s garden features banks of towering Christmas trees to create a forest backdrop and chunky Australian cypress decking from FRENCHAM CYPRESS that features an interesting “snakeskin” surface.       THE_PAVILION_IN_CYPRESS.JPG

The decks are staggered and are constructed in a way that suggests they float above the floor.

A timber-clad pergola of sustainable Australian cypress (designAclad®) provides a cosy undercover dining area, next to an outdoor lounge area with timber moulded stools and a low table.

Lewis hopes the garden will showcase another side of her talents. Since graduating from RMIT University in 2003 with a bachelor of applied science (landscape architecture) she has predominantly worked as a landscape designer and landscape architect in the commercial sector.
